The Baby Room is finally into it TOO!

With an addition of a new baby comes the addition of an oversized chalkboard barn door sliding on stainless steel spoke wheels hardware!  Now, the baby room is finally complete. And did I mention the cool shelves are made by us too? I can finally stop complaining that  the baby room needs to be done!  There is also a toddler bed Rock made for the older baby, I will update that here as soon as I can. The bottom shelving unit has bright blue legs, which makes it pop in a mostly neutral room.

The older baby has already chalking up the door, hopefully, that stops him from marking up the walls!

It's really fun watching these wheels roll, not to mention it's stunning!

It was this bed that made our two year old transit over from the crib. Cute, isn't?

If you would like to jazz up your baby room, talk to us! We can make it happen.

Lionfish Developments is the New Hip Spot on Dupont and Ossington!

I was in love with the space when Rock brought home the pictures to show me after his installation at Lionfish Developments's new office at Dupont and Ossington.  I no longer go on installations with him due to the arrival of baby number 2.  I wait at home to see the finished installs in images. Isn't this such a cool space? Notice that walnut slab door. It's on stainless steel hardware.

I have to give it to Valery, principal designer of the firm on the way she chooses lighting. There is something unconventional and bold about her choices.

That pendant is quirky, and charming and just goes perfect with that sliding walnut door!

Sliding Barn Door for a Basement Oasis

Our client has a really cool and fun basement with lots to play with.  But they also have a storage room for bicycles, to add more fun and cool factor to the space, our client wanted us to put up a solid slab door on the barn door hardware! If you were to walk down this basement, wouldn't you just want to hang out there forver?

Looks like all the fun is store away in fashion! Who wouldn't want the door to their storage room be a slab sliding barn door?

If you want that storage room to have a cool and functional door, let us know!

My Dream Console Table

After much complaining and whining about the fact that I don't have a work space (partly because our house is so small), Rock finally made me a wall mounted console table to my desire! It would have to work together with all the pieces we have in the house, and work in a way that virtually takes up no space and still be functional.

Here is the finished product, the large door at the bottom is for the printer and storage of the camera, external hard drives, and printing paper; the top drawers are for everything else.

It sits right in a little nook have here, just enough to house a laptop and for me to do paper work. Ideal for small spaces. The dimensions are 50"L x 16" D x 22H

The drawers and doors are made of baltic birch plywood, with holes routed in for handles. The framing around is made of solid walnut. I am in love with it!

Ohh La La...Sleek and Sophisticated Dining Set in a Modern Reno

55Design is back on our blog, this time they have The Long Feast walnut dining table and matching bench in mind for a modern reno in the Danforth. This Long Feast walnut table is 42 inches x 10 feet with a matching bench that is 8 feet long

These chairs gives a bit of warmth to the sleekness of the table set and house.

Rock and my father-in-law really worked hard to get the table and bench done before Christmas because that's what was asked of us. They leave the workshop at 10 pm everyday, you don't want to know the face I have on when Rock gets home at that time. But I promise it was a beautiful face when I saw the finished table and bench at the shop.

Are you ready for a complete make over of your house and have a stunning dining set to complete the look?  Talk to 55Design, because you will be glad you did, and everything will work out from there!

The Pedestal Walnut Table Roams the City Again

Hillcrest seems to be a great area in Toronto, and the 4 feet by 10 feet pedestal walnut table thinks so too!  So that's where it's will settle, in a beautifully and delightfully renovated house along with many charming pieces such as a salvaged orange vanity on the main floor powder room. The living room has been turned into the dinning room since eating is much more fun than sitting around on sofas.

Even the furry member of the house is excited about the new table. I hope he knows not to jump up on the table.

My father in-law standing proud since he and Rock built this table together! Rock has to step aside and share the fame.

I'm being invited back in the new year when the chairs are in and the renovation is more settled to take photos of the place!  I'm very excited about that and very excited to see what chairs our client fancies for this table!

White Shaker Style Sliding Barn Door to Make a Bedroom in Thornhill

Wanting to turn the living room into a bedroom, our client decided to put up a sliding barn door.  As you can see, it is a big opening, and the shaker Z door is just perfect. The simplicity of this door and the way it is used to divide the kitchen and the lliving sure makes a statement.

My father in law doing some touching up with the paint. Noticed it's a kitchen right outside. And the shaker style door goes really well with the cabinets.

Just making sure everything has been touched up.

Do you want a Z shaker style door to make a statement in your space while being functional?  Talk to us! We'll make it happen.

MJ Architecture is Home to a Sliding Slab Door

Going into an architect's home, one feels different, everything just seems like it was meant to be there.  There is a sense of confident in every piece you see in the space, from the lighting to an old chair, and of course, to a 9 feet tall sliding slab door as the one you see here in MJ Architecture's home. The place was redone, with the hallway wall ripped down, and the sliding slab door here is the entrance to the dinning room. Notice the flooring, the patch up hardwood running the opposite direction is where the wall used to be. I love how it is done so purposefully, conserving the history that there used to be wall.

My personal favourite style is electric, and this just does it! It is so much more interesting and fun to be a space like that. But I think there is a skill in matching things that don't really "match"

We made this slab door using solid 1-3/4" thick molding grade pine and white wash it to give that nice simple finish. The heavy Metal barn door hardware accessorizes the door

If you would like to have the slab door to make a statement in your space, talk to us! If you would like your space beautifully created with an architect's mind, contact MJ Architecture!

The Horseshoe Barn Door Hardware in Whitby

After ten years of vining and yearning for a barn door sliding on horseshoe barn door hardware, it has finally come down to one Saturday in November when our client can walk down her staircase to the full glory of exactly that! This door was made to look like the Union Jack flag and our client wanted it to slide on the horseshoe hardware.

View from on the top of the stairs. This door was actually hand distressed and then stained to make it look like old wood.

BOX made for a Jewel

Nothing beats a box made of walnut.  It sounds wonderful, beautiful, and mysterious.  Mysterious because you don't expect to see a compass when you open it. Our client wanted to give this to his father as a gift since the compass belonged to his father's boat.  What's more, if you're in a dark room, you'll be able to see the compass light up! This box is about 12"W x 8"L by 7" H made using finger joints

This compass still works, and Rock had wired it so that when the box is opened, it lights up, just like how it would when you're in your boat cruising in the dark.

If you would like to box your special piece in walnut or or exotic woods, talk to us!
